DSD Barn ventilation takes a fresh look at barn ventilation and considers air a basic necessity of life for your cows, just like water and feed.Without sufficient fresh air the bodily functioning of your animal will not be at its best nor will their health and well-being be as good it should be.
It is of utmost importance that the so-called natural ventilation, as the most essential requirement, takes place in a spacious and optimal manner. Natural ventilation consists of side wall and ridge ventilation, important for drawing in a sufficient amount of fresh, clean air as well as the removal of harmful gases. In low-ceiling barns, harmful air is largely discharged via the ridge. In high-ceiling barns with larger side wall openings, more cross-ventilation will occur.
On calm and hot days, even the most optimal natural ventilation systems can be insufficient. Heat stress can still occur. This may occur at only 23°C and 70% air humidity. Cooling fans are definitely worth considering preventing damage from heat stress. Proper barn ventilation is the key to a healthy and dry barn environment in which the animals are less prone to disease and generally feel better.
