Cooling fans for a healthy stable climate
With good stable fans you can create a comfortable stable climate for your animals all year round. During windless or warm days, even the best is natural ventilation not enough to maintain the temperature in the stable. By adding good cooling fans, this is possible.
With optimal placement the complete stable efficiently cooled. Depending on your stable, you can opt for longitudinal, transverse or vertical ventilation. The milking parlor and low areas can also be optimally cooled with smaller fans.
Cooling fans can be added to any stable, new or old, large or small.

Why cool?
Heat stress occurs when the cow cannot dissipate its body heat sufficiently. That is why a good stable climate with fresh, moving air is a primary need for your cow. From 20° C and 90% humidity, mild heat stress already occurs. Severe heat stress occurs from 30° C.
In case of heat stress the cow will:
- Eat less
- Experiencing stress
- Panting, sweating and drooling
- Standing more
Dairy farmers who cool the stable experience significantly less loss of milk production in extreme heat. Moreover, production is back on track more quickly.

- Heat stress costs approximately €7 per cow per day?
- The Netherlands has 85 warm days (>20° C) per year? Heat stress can occur on these days.
- In 10 years, we have had 49 tropical days (>30° C)? On these days, heat stress can be fatal.
Heat stress results in:
- Fertility problems
- Reduced resistance
- Rumen acidosis
- More claw problems
- More chance of mastitis
- milk production decrease to more than 25%
- Reduced fat and protein percentage of the milk
- Permanent damage to the unborn calf
- Reduced milk production of daughters and granddaughters
The possibilities with cooling
Longitudinal or cross ventilation
With longitudinal or cross ventilation, a horizontal air flow is created through the stable with axial fans.
Vertical ventilation
HVLS fans (high volume low speed) push air down from the ridge, cooling it. These large, low-speed ceiling fans can move enormous amounts of air, while still being whisper quiet and energy efficient.
Milking parlor fans
To create a comfortable climate for cow and farmer throughout the stable, fans can also be placed in the milking parlour. Depending on the stable, axial fans or ceiling fans can be installed.
Side wall ventilation
Fans are not the only way to reduce the temperature in the stable. MWith the side wall ventilation, the degree of ventilation can be adjusted depending on the weather. It is also possible to use translucent cloth for more natural light in the stable.
