Cross ventilation and longitudinal ventilation

Heat stress occurs when the cow cannot dissipate its body heat sufficiently. Heat stress can occur from 21 degrees Celsius and causes many problems in cows. From more claw problems and mastitis to reduced milk yield and fertility problems. That is why a good stable climate with fresh, moving air is a primary need for your cow.

During windless or warm days, even the best is natural ventilation not enough to maintain the temperature in the stable. By adding good cooling fans, this is possible.

Cooling cows can quickly be done! Dairy farmers who ventilate the stable experience significantly less loss of milk production in extreme heat. Moreover, production is back on track more quickly.

With ventilation with axial fans, a horizontal air flow is created over the length or width of the stable. DSD supplies various types of axial fans.

stable renovation fans

Abbifan XXP

The ABBI-FAN 140 XXP-21 fan is the latest development from Abbi-Aerotech for dairy stables. This fan is the most economical in the market as far as axial fans are concerned.

High air output with very low power consumption

The ABBI-FAN 140-XXP fan is equipped with a permanent magnet motor and an associated electronic control. This means that a very high efficiency is achieved, which becomes even greater as the speed decreases. Being in practice energy savings of 30-70% measured compared to existing engines. The engines are significant stiller, have a longer life span en less maintenance required.

ABBI-FAN 140 XXP-21 features

  • Extremely energy efficient
  • The right air speed everywhere in the stable
  • Air yield of approximately 50.000 m3 per hour
  • Permanent magnet motor
  • Direct drive wave propeller
  • Connection to 400V/3-phase
  • Aerodynamic design for optimal air inflow

Optional with atomization

The ABBI-FAN XXP is optionally available with atomization, which spreads very fine water droplets. This allows the air temperature to be further cooled by approximately 3-5 °C.

Can be controlled fully automatically

The DCC touch automatic control makes it possible to optimally adjust the fans. With the help of sensors, the stable climate is kept as optimal as possible fully automatically.

Hans Peter Vogel about the ABBIFAN fans

At the De Gelder cheese farm in Tijnje, the Abbifan XXP fans hang in the dairy barn. Farmer Hans Peter talks about his experience with installation and use of the fans.

Satisfied farmers tell

"DSD was able to carry out the entire renovation in-house, which is why I chose them. Moreover, the improvements, such as the addition of the feeding sidewalk, were very much appreciated."  > Read more

Willem Beltman from Bellingwolde

"We have decided to switch to better fans because of the increasingly warmer summers. With these new fans we blow fresh air from outside straight through the stable, which is more pleasant for people and animals."  > Read more

Hans Peter Vogel from Tijnje

"We noticed that on warm, windless days, our roof insulation and side wall ventilation was not enough to keep the cows comfortable. You notice that the HVLS fans can provide that extra bit of cooling."  > Read more

Marije Reijenga from Harich

"We had cows that stood too much and saw a lot of thick heels. Immediately after installing the AUC Waterbeds, the stalls were fully occupied and I saw far fewer thick heels. The waterbeds are more than worth the investment."  > Read more

Bart de Kruijf from Werkhoven

"When building my new stable, I opted for a complete DSD design. 11 years later, everything is still in perfect condition. When I wanted to invest in fans two years ago, I immediately knew where I wanted to buy them."  > Read more

Erwin Matthezing from Assen

"When I invested in two milking robots, I also had to renovate the stable. I chose Ster cubicles and AUC waterbeds because of the 15-year warranty, which gives confidence. It is clear that the cows lie down and get up easily." > Read more

André Baars from St. Jacobi parish

"In retrospect, I should have opted for the Innova cow bed much earlier. The years of experience of DSD stable equipment with this box covering was the deciding factor for me. They now lie much faster, easier and more, which indicates that they are enjoying themselves."  > Read more

Gert Jan Neef

"Last month we had new boxes and new cow mattresses installed in our stables by DSD stable furnishings. It was ready in 3 days. We are very satisfied and it turned out super neat."

Cross ventilation or longitudinal ventilation?

It is important for all stables, old or modern, to provide sufficient fresh air.

In modern stables with open sides and a gutter height of 4.40 meters, fans can be placed in the side wall, so that fresh outside air is blown directly over the animals. We call this cross ventilation. If possible, it is recommended to hang the fans on the shady side. The distance between them will then be approximately 7 meters.

In outdated stables, the gutter height is often too low for cross ventilation. In that case, longitudinal ventilation is therefore chosen, whereby the fans are placed in the stable in the longitudinal direction to blow fresh air through the stable.
